Health Program

The Problem

Healthcare remains a major challenge for economically marginalized populations. Children often suffer from undiagnosed health conditions like vision impairment that severely impact their education. Elderly people and individuals with disabilities lack access to mobility aids that are essential for their dignity and independence. Preventive health measures, such as menstrual hygiene, nutrition, and regular check-ups, are often neglected due to ignorance, lack of resources, or logistical difficulties in reaching healthcare centers.

Program Overview

The Health Program at The Helping One Foundation is committed to ensuring that underserved communities have access to basic healthcare services, preventive health awareness, and necessary medical aids. The broader objective is to promote healthier lives, reduce preventable diseases, and bridge the healthcare access gap between different socio-economic groups.

Solution

The Foundation organizes free healthcare drives, notably eye-testing camps in government schools where students undergo vision screening. Students diagnosed with visual impairments receive free spectacles. For the elderly and differently-abled, the Foundation distributes wheelchairs, walkers, and walking sticks to promote independent living. Alongside direct service delivery, the Foundation conducts awareness campaigns focusing on preventive healthcare, menstrual hygiene, and nutrition, helping communities understand and manage their own health better.

Achievement

Through systematic and well-organized health camps, more than 8,000 students have been screened for vision-related issues, and fifteen hundred have been provided with free spectacles, significantly improving their academic performance and quality of life. The Foundation has distributed over 100 mobility aids, restoring dignity and freedom of movement to elderly and differently-abled individuals. Hundreds sanitary pads distributed to young girls to stop period poverty. The health awareness campaigns have also helped in developing a community culture of early diagnosis and preventive care.
